Prior to joining Cornwallis Mackenzie, Mr. Smith was a corporate finance analyst at MacArthur & Co., a corporate finance boutique advisory firm situated in the heart of Europe’s financial capital, the City of London. While there, he worked on a full range of corporate finance activities including mergers and acquisitions, raising capital for businesses in every stage of maturity and was also involved in a successful takeover defense. Prior to this, Mr. Smith researched the European venture capital market for Dow Jones Venture One, the market-leading source of deal flow data and market information on early stage financing throughout the world.
Due to these two past employment positions, and his fluency in both French and German, Mr. Smith has developed a large network of contacts in the financial industries in the UK and continental Europe. He also has two years of experience as a lobbyist, working for UK small businesses at the highest levels of government in Westminster and the European Union.
Mr. Smith received a first-class honors degree in European Studies (Economics, French and German) from the Royal Holloway University of London. He is preparing for his final examination for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification, and will soon be a qualified accountant. He is also studying for his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification, and holds the rare distinction of having achieved a 780 (99th percentile) on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).
